SEAD and APEC Discuss Qualified Product Lists for Lighting Products
In October 2017, SEAD and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) held a workshop in Beijing on Qualified Product Lists (QPL) accelerating the adoption of high quality LED lighting products. The workshop brought together experts and policymakers from ten economies, United 4 Efficiency, and the IEA 4E Solid State Lighting (SSL) Annex.
A regionally harmonized QPL for lighting products can help governments meet energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals, even as demand for lighting increases, allow procurers to easily identify high-quality, high-efficiency products that meet their needs.
The workshop focused on the successful case study of the Design Lights Consortium (DLC), which hosts a QPL program in the United States and Canada. The DLC establishes product quality specifications, facilitates thought leadership, and provides information, education, tools, and technical expertise.
ASEAN SHINE will lead the effort toward harmonization of LED lighting standards in the ASEAN region. Together workshop participants are exploring opportunities for further engagement and collaboration on the development of a regional QPL for LED lighting products.
More information is available in the workshop report on the APEC website.
