Interior Lighting

Electricity for interior lighting—lighting we use in our homes, businesses, and industries—accounts for approximately 12 percent of global power consumption and roughly 1,575 million tons of CO2 emissions each year.

Preliminary SEAD Initiative analysis found that the adoption of best practice energy efficiency policies for lighting products in participating SEAD economies could, by 2030, save approximately 450 TWh each year and reduce annual CO2 emissions by 210 million tons.

To date, more than 30 economies around the world have developed minimum efficiency standards or labeling programs for highly-efficient LED lighting and lamps, though many countries have quality and safety standards in place.
