The Canadian Urban Institute estimates that there are 2.7 million streetlights across Canada, representing a potential capital investment of up to $1.5 billion if they were converted to energy efficient LED technology. SEAD has partnered with Natural Resources Canada and LightSavers Canada to accelerate the transition to energy efficient street lighting in Canada.
SEAD participated in workshops to advance LED street lighting in Ontario and Quebec that were organized by LightSavers Canada. In addition to presenting at the workshops, SEAD led a hands on training of the tool for municipal lighting managers, utilities, and lighting manufacturers. The lighting managers that participated in the training represent municipalities that own a total of 380,000 street lights.
