Connected Devices Alliance Workshop
8 January 2016, CES, Las Vegas, NV, USA
With more than 300 government and industry groups, including the Consumer Technology Association, the United Kingdom and International Energy Agency (IEA) brought together the first Connected Device Alliance (CDA) workshop in the United States. Following a mandate from the G20 in 2015, the Alliance is aimed at identifying projects and policy options to ensure that the energy efficiency opportunities offered by network-connected devices are realized.
The CDA workshop took place during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and hosted speakers from member governments, the Consumer Technology Association, Digital Europe, and the Information Technology Industry Council.
Speakers explained CDA and its evolution. They outlined priorities for 2016 and how industry can become involved in CDA activities. They also discussed plans for future research and initiatives that are likely relevant to the CDA. While the CDA is not set up to adopt any specific protocols or standards, the Center of Excellence and Awards could be used to increase awareness and implementation of protocols that maximize networked system energy efficiency.
